Land and Sea

This bespoke Irish textile weaving is entitled ‘Land and Sea’  and investigates the ever evolving relationship we have to the shorelines we inhabit.

‘Land and Sea’ emerged as an expressive journey as I continue to create a sense of belonging and connection for those who live and love Ireland’s Coastal shores. This piece encourages you to reflect on how we navigate our way to new places, relationships and challenges. With each stitch, I set an intention for a deeper connection, a grounding and a calming in the places we call home.

This is a once off, intuitively crafted textile weave that will never be replicated as I work without a pattern or a plan!

Each piece is handcrafted on the South and West Coast of Ireland from native or upcycled wools.

This textile weaving,  entitled Land and Sea emerged out of my recent move to Dungarvan, County Waterford. I considered different ways to help me feel at home in a new place. So I walked the coastline most days, connecting to the shore scape, the new colours and the geology.

I put together an alter of creation, made from Irish wools and local rocks and shells, where the wools found their place in this environment.

Each textile weaving is dowsed the piece in local plant essences. For this piece, I intuitively chose Marsh Marigold and Dog Rose natural essences. Dog Rose contains the essence of ‘oneness’. It dissolves our sense of separation from others and the world around us and connects us to source. This connects us nicely to the essence of Marsh Marigold, which supports to let go on things that do not belong to us, while helping us create boundaries to what is not ours. A perfect combination for a shore line piece!
