Super day with @cultureandhealth_community talking

Super day with @cultureandhealth_community talking about the training needs of our artists working within culture and health.
My work with artist wellbeing programmes across Europe is really highlighting the need for ongoing support and training in navigating the complex realms they work within. The creative process is a core part of this support.

After its time in the stunning @market_gallery_cor

After its time in the stunning @market_gallery_cork for the Sample Studios Annual exhibition, this piece ‘Creation’ has found its way home.
‘Creation’ celebrates Irish wool and cloth, using only native naturally dyed wools and upcycled wools on a linen canvas.
Available once again in my online art shop. Link in bio

We live in a culture that tells us we are the arch

We live in a culture that tells us we are the architects of our lives. That with enough intention, effort and belief, we can manifest the future we desire.
But what if there is another way of seeing things?
What if life is not ours to orchestrate, but something to participate in?
In the studio, I’m often reminded that making is not simply an act of bringing something into being. It is also an act of witnessing. Of watching, listening, responding. Allowing something to emerge that I could never have fully planned.
Perhaps we are not always here to make things happen.
Perhaps we are here to pay attention to what is already happening — within us, around us, and through us.
To be present for the unfolding.

Sustainable being is another way of being entirely

Sustainable being is another way of being entirely.
The act of replenishment comes from noticing, listening, slowing down, nourishing ourselves and others.
Sustainability is at the heart of all my work ❤️

This beauty is off to the framer 🎉
It was not an easy piece to make. It felt quite unyielding, and I made and remade it a number of times before it finally began to feel like itself.
Looking at it now, I realise what lingers for me is a sense of yearning.
A yearning for a pace that feels more human.
For a way of being that is less driven by urgency, and more attuned to the natural rhythms around us — the seasons, the tides, the slow unseen work of becoming.
We forget that there are parts of life that cannot be hurried.
That creativity, like nature, needs its periods of gestation:
Of noticing.
Of waiting.
Of not knowing.
Perhaps this piece is an acknowledgement of that.
Or perhaps an invitation — to trust a little more deeply in the rhythms we cannot always see.

No one is usually interested in the back of a piec

No one is usually interested in the back of a piece.
But with textile art, there can be a whole world happening behind the surface.
I spent a few hours in the sunny garden the other day, meticulously knotting the back of my latest piece — following each thread, securing each small section, slowly bringing it into order.
There is something almost like a healing taking place here.
The careful knots travelling across the canvas.
One small act of attention after another.
It reminds me that so much of making — and perhaps so much of life — happens where no one is looking.
The unseen work still matters.

We are so often moving towards the next thing.
The next piece.
The next task.
The next version of ourselves.
But what happens in the spaces between?
The pause before beginning.
The quiet after finishing.
The moments when nothing seems to be happening.
Perhaps these spaces are not empty at all.
Perhaps they are where we hear what is quietly asking for our attention.
What might the in-between be asking of you?

Bringing the element of ritual through endings int

Bringing the element of ritual through endings into your work day can have such a positive impact on your overall sense of well-being.
Rituals form a key part of my own arts practice and this theme is something I’ve explored in many of my artists wellbeing workshops.
How do you make the transition from one role to another, from one space to another?
Ponder this for the week and see what small rituals you can introduce: movement, song, action, gestures.
