Re-telling the Story of Menopause: Online Creative Self-Care Workshop

‘Re-telling the Story of Menopause’ is a 4 week self-care programme aimed at changing the way we talk, think and feel about the Menopause.

Re- Telling Menopause Story Workshop:

The menopause is a major time in a women’s life. It has been for me. It is a shift, a transition period where she moves from the second to the third phase of her life. She moves into Cronehood, into new phase of self-awareness and self-discovery.

Yet, this is not the story I hear in the many discussions and conversations I have with friends, or see online or in the media. It feels as though the menopause has become a range of symptoms that need to be solved and sorted, a time of discomfort and overwhelm.

The aim of this workshop is to start writing a different kind of story. A story that allows each individual women to navigate this, sometimes tumultuous path, and a create a story which is more reflective of the whole of herself. Where have we come from and how are we changing? How do we want to move forward into this next phase? We allows ourselves to open up our hearts and minds to the possibilities that exist at present and with what lies ahead.

As an online workshop, we will gather objects from the natural world into our session and play with what messages they can bring us. I use mediative creative exercises and visualisations throughout the session, along with auto-writing and story telling.

Let’s slow down, breath and make space for the fundamental, the profound and the new.

I create small groups in my workshops, giving time for connection and support. The session will contain a range of self-care activities; body awareness, drawing exercises to spark your imagination.

Some things you should know before signing up:

  • We can achieve way more together than we can alone. I keep my groups small, to develop small communities that will create together going forward. We use the creative process as a means of opening up our hearts and minds to all the potential resources that lie within. There is nothing wrong with you, there is nothing to be fixed. Let’s share our experiences as we are deeply connected in so many ways.
  • We use creativity as a therapeutic tool, this is not an art psychotherapy group. If you feel you need extra support, I am happy to find help you find a therapist.
  • You do not need to be able to draw, this is not an art class. It is not about producing a ‘good picture’. It’s about creating something that represents the whole of who you are right now.
  • There are plenty of objects you can use as a material throughout the house and garden! Gather up pencils, markers, crayons, paints, pastels; Gather up paper, old magazines, newspapers, cardboard containers, gather up any household objects such as tinfoil, clingfilm, glue, scissors, wrapping paper, fabrics or gather up organic materials such as food, earth, plants, leaves, twigs, stones, or sand. You can also use your I pad or tablet to create digital images. The sky is the limit.
